The 2009 CROP Walk will take place this weekend, and Grace Lutheran Church West Springfield will host the event for churches in the towns of West Springfield and Agawam, Massachusetts.

The walk takes place Sunday, May 17, 2009; registration begins at 12:00 noon and the walk starts at 1:00 p.m. Come out to make a donation to help the fight against worldwide poverty or simply support those who are participating in the walk. Continue reading →

Grace Lutheran Church West Springfield June book discussion: ‘Snow Falling on Cedars’ by David Guterson

Grace Lutheran Church West Springfield will hold its next book discussion Sunday, June 14, 2009, in the church parlor following the 9:30 a.m. worship service (starting at approximately 11:00 a.m.).

Snow Falling on Cedars

The featured book will be “Snow Falling on Cedars” by David Guterson.

The book, set on an island in the straits north of Washington state’s Puget Sound, a place where fisherman and berry farmers make up the island’s population.

The story, set in the 1950s, focuses on a murder trial, and touches on key themes such as racism and the internment camps of the 1950s as criminal suspicion surrounds a Japanese-American fisherman, a lifelong resident of the islands.
