Prepare for the 2009 ELCA Churchwide Assembly

Even if you’re not traveling to Minneapolis for the 2009 Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) Churchwide Assembly taking place Aug. 17-23, now’s the time to learn about the voting matters being considered at this year’s conference.

August book club discussion: ‘To Live or to Perish Forever’

The next book discussion at Grace Lutheran Church West Springfield will be held Sunday, August 9th at 11 a.m., following the Sunday worship service.

The featured book will be “To Live or to Perish Forever – Two Tumultuous Years in Pakistan” by Nicholas Schmidle.  Schmidle, the grandson of Grace Lutheran Church West Springfield members Ed and Joyce Jutkas, lived in and reported on Pakistan for two years as a New America Foundation fellow, where his travels took him into the most isolated and unfriendly provinces, and into the thick of interests and beliefs that impede that nation’s peace and progress.  Schmidle is a graduate of James Madison and American Universities and lives in Washington, D. C. with his wife.

All are invited to attend this discussion.  For more information, contact Carolyn at 739-0790.
