This Sunday: Bread for the World — Offering of Letters

On Oct. 18, Grace Lutheran Church West Springfield will sponsor a letter-writing campaign to U.S. senators and representatives requesting co-sponsorship of the Foreign Assistance Revitalization & Accountability Act, H.R. 2139. The bill, conceived to make foreign assistance programs more effective, is intended to direct the President to develop and implement:

  • A national strategy for global development to further the U.S. foreign policy objective of reducing poverty and contributing to economic growth in developing countries, including responding to humanitarian crises
  • A system to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of U.S. foreign assistance.
  • A way that American taxpayers and foreign assistance recipients should have, to the maximum extent practicable, full access to U.S. foreign assistance information.

Form letters, envelopes and a listing of senators and representatives will be provided in Jung Hall after Sunday morning worship at about 10:30 a.m. All are welcome to come and sign a letter. Bread for the World is a collective Christian voice urging our nation’s decision makers to end hunger at home and abroad.
