Fall rummage sale this Saturday, Oct. 23

Grace Lutheran Church West Springfield’s fall rummage sale will take place this Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Proceeds will benefit church programs.

Donations of clothing, housewares and small furniture items will be accepted at the church Monday – Thursday, October 18th – 21st from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon and Friday October 22nd from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. You can also call Martha at 568-8033 for pick-up.

Volunteers are also needed to help with setup for the sale Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

October book discussion: ‘Olive Kitteridge’ by Elizabeth Strout

Women of the Bible continues in August

It may be summer, but Grace Lutheran Church West Springfield’s special year-long study of the women of the Bibles continues throughout August. Join us Tuesday nights from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. in the church parlor. Here are this month’s featured women:

Help Gunn Square Habitat for Humanity project

Join Grace Lutheran Church West Springfield and help with its summer 2010 project with Habitat for Humanity.

On Saturday, June 26, 2010, a team of volunteers from Grace Lutheran Church West Springfield will help with the ongoing construction of a home located at 19 Gunn Square in Springfield.

The group will meet at the church (on Rt. 20) at 8:00 a.m. and then travel to Gunn Square for an 8:30 a.m. start. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

With funding assistance for the build provided by the Western Massachusetts chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Grace Lutheran Church West Springfield has already pledged $1,000 toward this year’s build, raised from the church’s June rummage sale.

If you are interested in learning more about this volunteer opportunity (which is a great way for first-time Habitat for Humanity volunteers to get involved), email Martha, Grace’s Habitat for Humanity congregational liaison.

Smith College student to talk of life in Tanzania, Uganda

Visit Grace Lutheran Church West Springfield this Sunday to hear tales about life in the African countries of Tanzania and Uganda.

All are welcome to hear Julie Olson, a Smith College Student who spent hear junior year abroad in Africa, discuss African life immediately following 9:30 a.m. worship (approximately 10:30 a.m.). In the fall of 2008, Olson studied at the University of Dar Es Salaam, in the capital of Tanzania, and in the spring of 2009 she studied in Uganda.

Grace Lutheran Church West Springfield sponsors the education of students in Arusha, Tanzania through the Mission of Hope program.

Financial statements for 2009 now available

A reminder from the financial secretary’s office, members’ end-of-year giving statements from the 2009 year are now available for pickup at Grace Lutheran Church West Springfield. They are located on the large table at the far end of Jung Hall. Keep them for your records or make use of them during tax preparations.
