Congregational budget meeting set for Nov. 20

Dear fellow members of Grace,

Join us on Sunday, November 20, 2011, for our annual Congregational Budget Meeting. We will be meeting after worship for discussion of the upcoming 2012 budget.  It will be an opportunity for us to look forward to what I believe, with God’s help, to be an exciting year in the life of our congregation.

At that time we will also be looking at our Mission Endowment Fund.  Be thinking about organizations for us to supports with this year’s distribution.  The three categories for consideration are groups or organizations working locally, regionally and internationally. This was an exciting part of last year’s meeting; our discussion provided us with three new ways of supporting God’s work in this world in 2010. Join in this year’s discussion; share your thoughts; are there other groups or organizations that we can support this year?

Please join us in these two very important discussions November 20.  This is God’s church but he has made us all stewards of it.  Come and be a faithful steward with what God has provided.

Message from Pastor Harman: Support peace with a piece of our Garden

Recently, with the tornado recovery efforts going on around town, I’ve been to several meetings with community members that know of our church, but have never met me.

In the process of meeting these people, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been introduced (or introduced myself) and had people say, “Oh, yeah! You’re the church that planeted the peace pole out in front! That was awesome!”

Well, we’re about to do one better by completing our peace pole project by installing our peace garden to go with it. Continue reading →

Fall rummage sale happening Oct. 22

Please join us for the Grace Lutheran Church West Springfield fall rummage sale Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. It’s an amazing opportunity to choose from hundreds of pre-owned houseold items and adult and children’s clothing.

Once again setup for the event will take place the Thursday and Friday beforehand; volunteers are needed. All items being offered for the sale can be brought to the church Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

Support Undie Sunday throughout October

For the month of October, Grace Lutheran Church West Springfield is participating in the effort to collect new underwear on behalf of the Springfield Rescue Mission and its annual Undie Sunday campaign.

Its goal is to collect 4000 pairs of socks, underwear (boxers) and t-shirts. Please bring in new, unused undergarments and drop them off in the blue bin in Jung Hall. The following items are needed:

  • Women’s, Men’s and Children’s underwear (Men’s
    sizes MED-XXXL)
  • Women’s, Men’s, Children’s socks
  • Women’s, Men’s, Children’s t-shirts (plain undershirt type)
