April book discussion: ‘The Book Thief’ by Marcus Zusak

The next monthly book discussion at Grace Lutheran Church West Springfield is scheduled to take place Sunday, Apr. 19 at 11:00 a.m. in the church parlor. The featured book will be “The Book Thief” written by Marcus Zusak.

The story takes place in Germany during and after World War II.  The main character is Liesel Meminger, a nine-year-old girl who lives with foster parents and develops a passion for reading after she steals her first book at her brother’s burial place.  The story is narrated by Death, a collector of souls, who doesn’t enjoy the job appointed to him.

This is a story of courage, friendship, love, survival, death and grief.  The book can be obtained by calling the reference desk at your local library; be sure to ask them to get it through the lending library system if they don’t have it on their shelves.

All are welcome to attend the discussion. For more information, call Carolyn at 739-0790.
