Grace Lutheran Church West Springfield will begin a new Summer 2013 Bible study series this week.
June 4 marks the beginning of a 6-8 week special study on the book of Roman’s, using material from Augsburg Fortress’ “Book of Faith” series.
The primary lens through which Lutherans read scripture is that of Law and Gospel. But what is the law? God’s law is everything that God asks of us. However, because we acknowledge that we cannot do all God asks, we must look to God for grace and mercy, for love and all forgiveness. The gospel is everything that God does for us.
It doesn’t matter if you are a biblical scholar or have never study the bible, whether you bring your own bible or use one on the many we have on the shelf; whether you can be there every week or a few weeks, all are welcome. The group meets in the church parlor Tuesday night’s from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm.

This special 14-week study series, beginning Oct. 2, 2012, will feature the book “Walking in the Dust of Rabbi Jesus” by author Lois Tverberg.
By understanding the religious and cultural atmosphere in which Jesus lived and taught, we begin to understand why his first disciples abandoned everything to follow him. As we eavesdrop on the conversation, Jesus and these first disciples, using ears of first century Christians we will find a new depth in our spiritual life. We will discover both practical ways to live as Jesus’ disciple and an invigorating faith that will draw you closer to God.
The Bible study group meetings run from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and take place in the church parlor. A number of copies of “Walking in the Dust of Rabbi Jesus” are available for $12.00 each. To learn more, please contact Carol via the church office.

Beginning this Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at 6:00 p.m., this 90-minute study will meet for the next 16 weeks and not only study the “big picture” of the four Gospels, but will also explore the journey of the story of Jesus, from His birth through His ministry, along the dark path of trials and crucifixion and into the bright light of Easter morning.
As we walk this journey we will also participate in Jesus’ life, not just in our heads but in our whole lives. Through story telling, visual sand art presentations, worship songs and creative events that reach imagination and spirit. Along with the life-based questions in each session guide, these activities will help take the conversation off the page and into our lives.
