Grace Lutheran Church West Springfield will celebrate the beginning of the Christmas season on Christmas Eve with two candlelight worship services: a family service at 6 p.m. and a midnight service at 11 p.m. All are welcome to attend these services. (Please note there will be no Dec. 22 Wednesday evening service this week.)
The sanctuary will be decorated with poinsettia plants purchased by members of the congregation in the memory or honor of loved ones. A musical solo will be performed by Marion Dunk, one of the members of Grace’s well-known and popular Back Row Band.
At both services, the Christ candle at the center of the Advent Wreath will be lit for the first time and will be the candle from which all other candles held by the members of the congregation are lit. As the light enters the darkness and fills the room, the congregation will sing “Silent Night”, the fourth verse in German, which is the song’s language of origin. Communion will be offered to anyone who desires it.
