Grace Lutheran Church West Springfield calls on the community to help meet the urgent need for nonperishable food items at the West Springfield Parish Cupboard, an emergency food program serving greater West Springfield.
According to director Martha Tighe, demand for assistance was overwhelming in the month of July, as the Parish Cupboard met the needs of 214 families and nearly 600 total individuals, with more than 200 of them children. As a result, the Parish Cupboard’s supply of groceries has fallen to critically low levels.
Donations can be brought to Grace Lutheran Church at 1552 Westfield St., or a pickup can be arranged by contacting the Parish Cupboard directly at (413) 734-7969.
Grace Lutheran Church West Springfield invites the congregation, friends, neighbors and all others from the community with an interest in feeding the hungry to attend the special harvest event for its first-ever vegetable garden.
Help is needed Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012, after Sunday worship (approx. 11:00 a.m.) to pick the vegetables from the garden, planted this past spring by the children of Grace. The vegetables will go to the West Springfield Parish Cupboard to help feed those in need. All the “home framers” who have bounty to share to add to those grown by our children are also invited to attend.
Grace is also looking for help delivering the vegetables to the Parish Cupboard during the week of Aug. 27; availability before noon Mon.-Fri. Children are especially encouraged to help. For more information, contact Carol: 413-733-7345 or via email at email@example.com
Please join Grace Lutheran Church West Springfield to generously offer your financial support to the Souper Bowl of Caring, taking place Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012.
